UNICA and IMAHelps Collaboration

by Andrea Kemmerrer

Jeff Crider, the IMAHelps communication director, traveled along with Alvaro Molina, a Nicaraguan attorney and legal counsel for IMAHelps, to Nicaragua. They formalized our plans to base the mobile dental clinic at the university in Nicaragua, UNICA. Crider and Gutierrez met with the University Director, Dr. Francisco Hiram Otero Pravia, and other officials representing the Universidad Católica de Nicaragua (UNICA). UNICA will be the permanent residence for the mobile dental clinic when it is not being utilized for missions, it will also serve as a teaching aide to assist the university in training the next generation of dental professionals.

The meeting was held to discuss developing a memorandum of understanding between the university and the mobile clinic owned by IMAHelps. This memorandum will spell out specific responsibilities for the university in terms of insurance, clinic storage and use of the clinic. Additionally, the agreement will explain that IMAHelps is merely lending the clinic to UNICA, as a teaching aide, but retains full ownership. This is a formal step to solidify the partnership between UNICA and IMAHelps. It will precede a formal legal agreement that will be signed before the clinic is transported to Nicaragua at the conclusion of the domestic mission trips.
